A leaked API key led to unexpected usage charges before we caught it. Our incident runbook assumed we'd notice from monitoring alerts — we actually noticed from a billing anomaly two days later. Rewrote the runbook to include billing alerts as a first-class detection signal, not just an afterthought.

Spent 6 months on LeetCode-style prep. Some interviews now explicitly allow AI assistance during coding rounds, which makes me wonder if I over-invested in pure algorithmic prep vs system design and AI tool fluency.

Learned this the hard way after a bad migration wiped rows with no way back except a stale nightly dump. Set up WAL archiving with point-in-time recovery on Postgres, tested a full recovery drill, documented the runbook. Total setup was about a day, would recommend doing it before you need it.

We blocked Wednesdays company-wide for deep work. Code review turnaround improved noticeably. What didn't improve: cross-team decisions still got delayed since people just moved those conversations to Thursday, creating a mini bottleneck. Adjusting to a rotating no-meeting day next.
