The VM migration itself was the easy part. What took longer: rebuilding backup jobs, re-testing licensing for a couple of legacy Windows Server VMs, and retraining ops staff on a completely different management console. Budget at least as much time for the surrounding tooling as the migration itself.

Setting up virtualization for a small office, roughly 6-8 VMs for internal tools and a couple of dev environments. Bare KVM feels like it might be enough without needing Proxmox's management layer on top. Anyone gone either direction for a similarly small setup?

For months, 'works in staging' didn't mean much because staging was a different shape than production entirely. Restructured both around the same Helm charts with per-namespace config overrides. Deployment surprises in production dropped noticeably in the following quarter.
